This book presents both the philosophy and techniques of systems analysis and simulation, or modeling, as applied in wildlife and fisheries sciences. Texts providing a hands-on approach to learning modeling skills, similar to those found in engineering and management fields, have not been written for students in wildlife and fisheries sciences before. The objectives of this book are to describe the systems approach to problem solving, demonstrate its applicability to wildlife and fisheries problems and develop a general understanding and basic vocabulary in selected areas of mathematics, statistics and computer science as they relate to ecological modeling.
