    Brownie McGhee was a team player and his team was Sonny Terry, who was like several people in one. Sonny could sing, he could entertain, and was extraordinarily funny and cute at the same time. It was a God-given gift. He was also kind of a musical bully, pushing Brownie around onstage, which Brownie fielded with grace, genius, and quiet resentment. In private they couldn’t stand each other but onstage they were as tight as two people could be. This brotherhood, this love of music and performing together, was the only thing they shared
