KNIHY One of the most surprising things about this book, that I didn’t realise until I was half way through, is that the author is not a black female with a big personality, even though every word in the book comes from her mouth. The author is a white, middle class and middle aged man called Alexander. I had to check twice that the publishers had actually put in the right author photograph. More gender and race assumptions are thrown in the air with the plotline, which focusses on an entrepreneurial effort to set up a typing school in a small African town. The colour and vibrancy of life in small town Africa is vividly brought to life, with characters such as the mechanics at the garage and the well- off African clients breaking up many lazy stereotypes that readers may hold and making these people real and engaging. The typing school itself is for Men, and this enables the author to explore in a gentle and humorous way, more underlying cultural norms about gender. This is one of the most original and quirky books I’ve ever read, and I’m going to look out for more titles by the same author. Zdroj anotace: OKCZ - ANOTACE Z WEBUNačítání…
