A wide range of human artefacts, such as paper, textiles, glass and ceramics, are subject to steady continuous deterioration from a variety of sources. Increasing interest is being taken in the scientific investigation of causes and remedies for these phenomena. Each chapter in this volume deals with one such artefact and illustrates the origin of deterioration, restoration techniques and subsequent preservation.
