This book attempts to bring together all available data on the helminths of Mexican Cichlidae. It includes 90 species of helminths (10 Monogenea, 46 Digenea, 7 Cestoda, 21 Nematoda and 6 Acanthocephala) which parasitize 33 native species of cichlids belonging to the genera Amphilophus, Archocentrus, Cichlasoma, Herichthys and Petenia, and 8 exotic species belonging to the genera Oreochromis and Tilapia, collected from 102 localities in 12 states of Mexico. Descriptions of the morphology (accompanied by clear line drawings), host range, geographical distribution in Mexico, site of infection and biology (when known) of each species are given. An introductory section on the collection and study of helminths is followed by chapters on Digenea (adults and metacercariae are considered separately), Monogenea, Cestoda, Nematoda (adults and larvae) and Acanthocephala, each of which includes an identification key, the helminth descriptions arranged in alphabetical order with one species per page, and a list of doubtful records.
